A documentary about Giske’s current commission carriedout in Oslo, developed in cooperation with Bridget Ferrill and Theresa Baumgartner.

Bendik Giske is an artist and saxophonist whose practice regularly blurs the limits inbetween efficiency, setup and music. Over 2 solo albums for Smalltown Supersound – 2019’s Surrender and 2021’s Cracks – Giske hasactually pressed his instrument and body to the limitation through circular breathing strategies that stretch and shape his tender structures.

In March 2021, Giske was commissioned by Oslo’s MUNCH Museet to produce a brand-new live work, Not . Created in cooperation with noise artist Bridget Ferrill and including lighting and bespoke scenography by Theresa Baumgartner, Not Yet is a efficiency that checksout concepts of queer time and ecstasy, illustration motivation from the veryfirst passage of José Esteban Muñoz’s book Cruising Utopia, which referrals queerness as something glimpsed on the horizon that belongs to everybody.

“Queerness is not yet here,” Muñoz composes. “Queerness is an ideality. Put another method, we are not yet queer, however we can feel it as the warm lighting of a horizon imbued with potentiality. We have neverever been queer, yet queerness exists for us as an ideality that can be distilled from the past and utilized to picture a future. The future is queerness’s domain.”

In this movie, directed and produced by Fact’s Pedro S. Küster and including unique video from the live efficiency of Not Yet, Giske goesover the lotsof ingenious methods that go into producing his work, from circular breathing to utilizing microphones installed on the instrument to produce various tonal qualities. Giske likewise talksabout the motivation behind Not Yet and the concept of ‘stepping out of the binary’ to develop a distinct tonal and spatial experience, one that interacts with both the audience and the efficiency environment.

“Queerness will neverever be here,” Giske states. “It is naturally something that exists in the future, and constantly will be. I like that idea.”
