Reality Mix 877: Himera

This weeks’ Fact mix, from manufacturer Himera, is what falling in love on the web sounds like, the overdriven, hyper saturated soundtrack to vaping in the club, k-holing in the restroom and weeping on the bus on the method house.

Earlier this month the Latvian-born, Amsterdam-based manufacturer Himera launched their launching album, Sharing Secrets, a heart-swelling, hair-raising, bliss-inducing declaration of intent that tosses broad open the doors onto a crucial brand-new world we had formerly just captured looks of on their cherished 2020 EP, More Than Friends, their 2021 partnership with partner-in-crime Petal Supply, ‘You Make It Look So Easy,’ as well as dewy-eyed remixes of the exactsame track from Malibu and Mura Masa. Himera catches thrilled hurries of intimacy and festivity in full-bodied, hyper sound, transplanting the abstracted signifiers of hypnotictrance, pleased hardcore and severe computersystem music, aspects that the PC Music team and associated artists have invested the finest part of the last years synthesising into what is now understood as hyperpop, back onto more daring dance floorings, both URL and IRL. This is what falling in love on the web sounds like, the overdriven, hyper saturated soundtrack to vaping in the club, k-holing in the restroom and sobbing on the bus on the method house.

What Sharing Secrets continues to show is that, above all, Himera makes music about relationship. “Friendship, and the minutes that come from it, is absolutely my primary source of motivation for my music,” they justrecently informed AQNB. “Be they the happiest minutes or the most bittersweet ones, the finest method for me to lock in these memories is to compose little tunes about them.” From Hannah Diamond’s pining vocals on ‘Kiss’ and the rain-flecked memories of sharing an umbrella on the method back from a celebration that drive the bubblegum marching tune of ‘Umbrella’ to the Shepard tone surprises of ‘Today, I Opened My Eyes’ and the heart breaking swell of ‘Good Night, I Hope The Future Brings You Only The Best!,’ Sharing Secrets problems forth in a language of optimism and love, where having faith in your goodfriends and being in love shines fantastic light on a more caring method of being in the world. “I simply desire somebody to press the timeout button on truth and go into this fictional little world with me,” Himera concludes.

For their delirious Fact mix, Himera provides a whiplash-inducing retrospective on the year leading up to Sharing Secrets, moving inbetween unreleased originals and production variations, remixes of goodfriends and heroes EASYFUN, A. G. Cook, Carly Rae Jepsen and Ariana Grande, as well as some more mystical additions. “This is a mix of originals and remixes, mainly unreleased,” states Himera. “I desired to puttogether a lot of the sounds and tunes that I’ve been working on for the past year or so, leading up to the conclusion of ‘Sharing Secrets’. It consistsof some additional Secrets that will slip out quickly enough.”
