SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California will raise the minimum wage for health care employees to $25 per hour over the next years under a brand-new law Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Friday.

The brand-new law is the 2nd minimum wage boost Newsom hasactually signed. Last month, he signed a law raising the minimum wage for quick food employees to $20 per hour.

Both wage increases are the outcome of years of lobbying by labor unions, which have considerable sway in the state’s Democratic-dominated Legislature.

“Californians saw the nerve and dedication of healthcare employees throughout the pandemic, and now that exactsame valiancy and dedication to clients is accountable for a historical financialinvestment in the employees who make our healthcare system strong and available to all,” stated Tia Orr, executive director of the Service Employees International Union California.
