REYKJAVIK, Iceland — A volcano in southwestern Iceland emerged for the 2nd time in less than a month on Sunday, sendingout lava snaking towards a neighboring neighborhood and setting at least one home on fire.
The eruption, which started simply inthepast 8 a.m. regional time, came after authorities left the town of Grindavik following a swarm of little earthquakes, the Icelandic Meteorological Office stated. Hours lateron, a 2nd crack opened near the edge of town and lava sneaked towards the homes.
“We simply watch it on the electroniccameras and there’s truly absolutelynothing else we can do,” Grindavik local Reynir Berg Jónsson informed Iceland’s RUV tv.
Grindavik is a town of 3,800 individuals about 50 kilometers (30 miles) southwest of Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital. The neighborhood was formerly left in November following a series of earthquakes that opened big fractures in the earth inbetween the town and Sýlingarfell, a little mountain to the north.
