PHOENIX — A uranium manufacturer has concurred to momentarily timeout the transportation of the mineral through the Navajo Nation after the people raised issues about the possible results that it might have on the appointment.
Gov. Katie Hobbs stated Friday that she steppedin this week after talking with Navajo President Buu Nygren, who had come up with a strategy to test a tribal law that prohibits uranium from being carried on its land.
Energy Fuels started carrying the ore Tuesday from its mine south of Grand Canyon National Park to a processing website in Blanding, Utah. When Nygren discovered out, he purchased tribal cops to pull over the trucks and avoid them from takingatrip evenmore. But by the time cops showedup, the semi-trucks had left the appointment.
Energy Fuels stated in a declaration Friday that it concurred to a short-term timeout “to address any affordable issues” held by Nygren. It justrecently began mining at the Pinyon Plain Mine in northern Arizona for the veryfirst time consideringthat the 1980s, driven by greater uranium rates and international instability. No other websites are actively mining uranium in Arizona.
