GULFPORT, Miss. — A federal judge has dismissed a suit that lookedfor to secure dolphins along the Mississippi Gulf Coast after lots were eliminated or sickened in 2019 following the extended opening of a spillway utilized for flood control.
U.S. District Court Judge Louis Guirola Jr. ruled Wednesday that regional federalgovernments and organization groups that submitted the civil problem in January had no legal standing to takelegalactionagainst. The judge stated the complainants, who called themselves the Mississippi Sound Coalition, stoppedworking to program they dealtwith impending damage.
The union had tooklegalactionagainst the Army Corps of Engineers over its operation of the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway upriver from New Orleans. The spillway is utilized to divert Mississippi River water to Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne, after which it streams to the Mississippi Sound in the Gulf of Mexico.
