LAS VEGAS — Picketing continued Sunday outdoors a hotel-casino near the Las Vegas Strip that stayed open with no talks arranged inbetween management and union members striking for a brand-new agreement.
Workers are lookingfor a pay raise and advantages similar to pacts reached last year at other resorts.
The walkout by about 700 Culinary Workers Union workers at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas comes a week before the 2nd yearly Las Vegas Grand Prix is due to draw hundreds of thousands of fans for Formula 1 racing on the Strip and neighboring streets. It’s the veryfirst open-ended strike consideringthat 2002 for the biggest labor union in Nevada, which has about 60,000 members.
No brand-new settlements were arranged, stated union representative Bethany Khan and Terri Maruca, media agent for Virgin Hotels, owner of the 1,500-room home.
