With a strongly psychedelic mix of hypnotictrance, techno and ambient Dutch DJ and manufacturer Spekki Webu has constantly checkedout the worlds of immeasurably deep, absolutely immersive noise system alchemy, lookingfor to open up websites to transportation you, body and soul, to someplace else, oscillating on another aircraft of presence completely. In the opening minutes of his Fact mix, it’s clear we’re currently there, wandering through deep area, covered in black hole drone, the dull light of remote stars recommending itself in resonant echoes, like condensation leaking in a cosmic ocean cavern. “It’s a very tripped out one,” describes the artist, “taking it a bit back in the BPMs, which I sanctuary’t been doing for a while. I haveactually been going back into some balanced, noise-orientated music that has been motivating me recently. Lots of motion and hypnotic recurring noise style.” A ghostly hum starts to assert itself, an spooky rise of bass echo and spiralling tessellations of phantom whispers, the constant throb of a monolithic existence moving in the darkness, clanks, falters and problems signalling a sneaking chorus of high-tensile twinges moving gradually up your back chord. Perhaps this is the Mirror Zone, the transformative area from which Spekki Webu’s prominent imprint takes its name. “Mirror Zone is you and me, it’s life,” the artist informed Patterns Of Perception. “Everybody has a journey with his or her inner self throughout life. I haveactually been exploring with a hybrid setup, so the mix is hybrid tape-recorded, blending tunes while playing noise structures, rhythms and noise style live.” From out of the shadow the smothered sounds of bludgeoning kick drums ooze into focus, smeared upuntil practically unrecognisable, addled chatter and voice drifting through the soundscape like smoke. This faint idea of hardcore pressure unfurls as a nod to the artist’s developmental years tripping inbetween difficult techno and gabber raves in Delft, Rotterdam and The Hague, something he mentions as one of the main motivations behind his love of all things dark and psychedelic. “Experiencing how artists attempted to push themselves time and time onceagain to break borders, be distinct and have an identity – to do what they truly desired to do and program such devotion – hasactually been extremely motivating and crucial for my frameofmind as an artist and label owner,” he has stated. “The speculative and psychedelic part that comes from there is certainly something that has stuck with me as well within my design. In and around the nation there were noise systems doing prohibited raves, typically playing moredifficult designs and having a really psychedelic touch.”
“Vacated soul.
Reborn into the brand-new.
Not how, however why?“
As more immediate percussive textures start to take form, significant drums vibrating bones and internal organs, advising us assoonas more of terrestrial weight through outstanding webs of fixed, Spekki Webu tilts into a one-way stream of forward momentum, diverse aspects swirling together into more familiar setups. Building to a unrelenting down towards clearness, a mushroom-tinged techno pulse exposes itself gradually, the intense radiance of a luminescent world swimming into focus on the occasion horizon. Shifting inbetween jet black rattle and gauzy marine textures, IDM trills and t
