Happy New Tears desires to make you cry. By her own admission, the Berlin-based, Zambian-Dutch DJ and manufacturer relentlessly goesafter the most psychological minutes in the club, teetering on the limit inbetween transcendence and dissociation, where ecstasy suggestions into melancholy and back onceagain. Spinning modern club music through progressive hypnotictrance and Rotterdam hardcore, she’s tapped in to both your enjoyment centres and your tear ducts, driven by the belief that “crying is a lovely expression of the heart.”
Having cut her teeth at Berlin Community Radio as a member of No Shade, a celebration, cumulative and DJ training program for ladies, non-binary and trans artists, Happy New Tears is no completestranger to extending brand-new club sounds to breaking point while paying tribute to critics past. Her Fact mix is no various. “The mix mixes a broad range of sonic worlds and is a noise expedition of deconstructed sounds, trance affects, reimagined Ice Spice and Lil Uzi Vert bangers led by techno paces and squeezing in some hardcore,” she describes.
“This last category is particularly carefully linked to me as my hometown Rotterdam is the starting location of the music and its surrounding gabber subculture, which was formed as an underground, anti-establishment motion with little, underground raves,” she continues. “This values of variance is a secret belief I shot to stay real to.” Gliding through near future club liquidators from VR Chads, Lauren Duffus and Re:drum, serotonin flooding modifies of Ice Spice, Lil Uzi Vert and Oklou from Grasps, Know V.A. and Ghili respectively, as well as Eurotrance anthems from Fragma, Paul van Dyk and U96, the mix serves as an escape for hurrying heads and racing hearts, leaving us someplace brand-new, with Happy New Tears.
