A physical analysis of the Chromatic setup’s expedition of the consistency of kind, colour and noise.
For this unique efficiency, motion director and 180 Studios homeowner Yagamoto immersed himself inside Chromatic, one of the lotsof striking works inside United Visual Artists’ Synchronicity exhibit. Chromatic is influenced by chromeosthesis, a type of synesthesia where noise stimulates impressions of colour, shape and motion – a principle showed in Yagamoto’s natural action to the setup.
Chromatic was produced by UVA in partnership with author Daniel J Thibault, who was able to play the setup like an instrument thanks to the softwareapplication that drives it. This concept of male and device working together is likewise mirrored in Yagamoto’s analysis of the work, in which he appears to play in time with the generative music.
For more insight into Chromatic, watch our interview with Thibault and UVA’s Jon Skerritt.
