MHI Group Launches Joint Demonstration Testing of CO2 Liquefaction for CO2 Handling to Expand CCUS Application
– Accelerating efforts towards accomplishing a carbon neutral society through liquefaction system and associated innovations
– MHI Group’s extensive strengths will deal options to the decarbonization requires of both clients and society
TOKYO, Oct 16, 2023 – (JCN Newswire) – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), and 2 of its Group business – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine & Turbocharger, Ltd. (MHIET) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Corporation (MHI-AC&R) – have began joint presentation screening of a system that melts the CO2 recorded from gas engine generator sets. It will speedup the mission efforts to accomplish carbon neutrality through offering the liquefaction system and associated innovations.
In this presentation screening program, CO2 from gas engine generator sets, forming a part of an internal power station at MHIET’s Sagamihara Plant, is caught by “CO2MPACT™,” a compact CO2 capture system, and the CO2 is melted in MHI-AC&R’s compact CO2 liquefaction system. Introducing competence of the Research & Innovation Center which is in charge of R&D in MHI Group, the presentation screening will target early useful application. Because melted CO2 has less volume than gaseous CO2 and is more easilytransportable, it is anticipated to speedup adoption of CCUS (Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage).
In addition, confirmation of functional assistance services utilizing MHI’s proprietary remote tracking system will be carriedout in the CO2 liquefaction presentation test program. It is the exactsame confirmation as that for CO2 capture system which has a
