Los Angeles Angels pitcher Chase Silseth left Saturday’s videogame versus the New York Mets early due to friendly fire.
Silseth was struck in the back of the head in the bottom of the 4th inning as veryfirst baseman Trey Cabbage fired throughout the diamond in an effort to catch Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, who was required into attempting to take 3rd base. Lindor safely made it to 3rd and scored after the ball ricocheted off Silseth’s head. It was ruled a tossing mistake.
The play began with runners on veryfirst and 2nd base. As Silseth fired a strike in to Mets batter Daniel Vogelbach, Lindor, who was on 2nd base, took a really big lead that triggered Jeff McNeil to run to 2nd base. With both Lindor and McNeil near 2nd base, Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe made a head-scratching choice to fire the ball to veryfirst, mostlikely believing McNeil was going to shot and run back.
But McNeil remained at 2nd and Lindor ran for 3rd. Cabbage tossed the ball throughout the infield to shot and catch him, however he hit Silseth in the back of the head. Silseth went to the ground after he was struck and clutched his head.
