Former Michigan football coach Gary Moeller, who lateron served as interim head coach with the Detroit Lions, passedaway on Monday at the age of 81.
Moeller was a longtime assistant coach under Bo Schembechler and changed the famous coach in 1990 upon Schembechler’s retirement.
In 5 seasons at Michigan, Moeller was 44-13-3 and won 3 Big Ten champion and the 1993 Rose Bowl over Washington. Moeller’s groups completed in the leading 20 in the nationwide surveys each of his 5 seasons. He was the head coach in 1991, when Desmond Howard won Michigan’s 2nd Heisman Trophy.
Moeller was required to resign as head coach in the spring of 1995 after he was detained for attacking a cops officer and disorderly conduct at a diningestablishment in Southfield.
