Cinema Audio Society Awards: ‘A Complete Unknown,’ ‘The Wild Robot’ Among Film Winners

A Complete Unknown, The Wild Robot and Music By John Williams were the motion picture winners at the 61st Annual Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards. The celebration of excellence in sound mixing across film, television and non-fiction programming also honored Masters of the Air, Shogun and The Bear in its TV categories.

“This year’s winners transported audiences to historic battlegrounds, to bustling kitchens and deeply personal moments of an American icon, proving once again that sound is the rhythm in the heart of movies,” said CAS President Peter Kurland. “From sweeping cinematic epics to intimate portraits of life, the artistry of sound mixing continues to push creative and technical boundaries. These exceptional professionals don’t just enhance stories—they define them. Tonight, we celebrate their dedication, innovation, and the lasting impact of their craft.”

Comedian Tom Papa returned as host of this year’s ceremony which was held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles Saturday night. In addition to the honors given across seven categories in sound mixing, Academy Award-winner Oliver Stone presented the CAS Career Achievement Award to sound engineer Tod Maitland, known for his work on Joker and West Side Story. Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer also presented Academy Award-nominated Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve with the CAS Filmmaker of the Year Award. Additional presenters throughout the night included Kris Bowers, Ron Funches, Chris Hardwick, Annie Lederman, Joe Manganiello, Krys Marshall, Michael Urie, Kirsten Vangsness and Wil Wheaton.

A Complete Unknown is nominated for an Oscar in the sound category this year alongside Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Wicked and The Wild Robot. Last year, CAS gave Oppenheimer its top prize while the Oscar went on to be awarded to The Zone of Interest. However, in the prior three years, CAS and the Academy recognized the same three films, Top Gun: MaverickDune and Sound of Metal, making the CAS honor a decent predictor of which project might go on to win the Oscar at the Academy Awards.
