Popular Rice Bowl Chain Combines Fast, Flavorful Japanese-Inspired Dishes with a Visual Tribute to the Compton Community
Torrance, CA (RestaurantNews.com) Yoshinoya, the iconic Japanese-inspired quick-service restaurant known for its signature Gyudon beef bowls and flavorful rice-based meals, is proud to announce the opening of its newest location in Compton, California. The opening marks a significant milestone for the 125-year-old brand as it unveils its first-ever double drive-thru in the U.S. – a format designed to serve more guests with the speed and convenience today’s diners expect.
Beyond the innovative store design, this opening is also a celebration of Compton’s unique spirit. In collaboration with neighboring businesses, Thee Sound Shop and RSVC Construction Company, Yoshinoya partnered with Compton-born artist, 27-year-old Mel Depaz to create a vibrant, large-scale tribute mural that captures the heart of the community, highlighting beloved landmarks and iconic businesses throughout the city. The custom piece, visible from Long Beach Boulevard, turns a shared wall into a powerful symbol of local pride. In addition, an interior mural by the same artist adds a dynamic visual touch within the restaurant walls.
“Creating public art in my hometown is deeply personal – Compton is rich in culture, history and talent, and I’m proud to help tell that story through a mural that reflects our community’s spirit,” said Depaz. “I’m especially honored to partner with a legendary brand like Yoshinoya, one that understands the power of local pride and is investing in Compton in a meaningful, lasting way, and I hope this piece not only inspires, but also becomes a source of connection for everyone who sees.”
At the new 2,193-square-foot restaurant, guests will find Yoshinoya’s signature lineup of bold, flavorful dishes, including its iconic Gyudon beef bowls made with thin-sliced beef simmered in a sweet-savory sauce, teriyaki chicken bowls, crispy tempura shrimp, and fresh steamed vegetables. With options for hearty meals, lighter fare and customizable combinations, Yoshinoya offers something for every appetite – all served fast and at a great value.
“Our newest Compton opening represents a pivotal step in Yoshinoya’s growth, unveiling the brand’s most innovative store design to date,” said Paul Nishiyama, Presid
