LONDON — Most train services throughout the U.K. were canceled Saturday as thousands of rail employees staged the newest in a string of strikes over tasks, pay and working conditions.
The 24-hour walkout by 40,000 cleaners, signalers, upkeep employees and station personnel was the 3rd in a week, and part of a rising wave of strikes from employees lookingfor pay raises to keep up with inflation that is running at practically 10%.
Only about 20% of train services were anticipated to run throughout the U.K. on Saturday, according to facilities operator Network Rail, with interruption spilling over into Sunday earlymorning.
“We understand that it’s tough for the public,” stated Mick Lynch, basic secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Trans
