Early bettors backing Justin Fields to win NFL MVP in 2023-24

2 minutes, 49 seconds Read

Justin Fields made some noise this offseason when he vowed to become the first Chicago Bears quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards this season.

And it looks like bettors took notice as well.

Quarterbacks dominate the preseason odds when it comes to winning the 2023 NFL MVP award, filling the first 24 spots on the odds list and 29 of the top 30.

And while superstars like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen sit atop the odds board, another player has caught the eye of early MVP bettors. That player is Fields.

According to PointsBet Senior Editor Max Meyer, the Bears signal-caller is getting twice as many NFL MVP bets as any player outside of Jalen Hurts, and his handle is second to only Joe Burrow.

Meyer noted recently that Fields is receiving “insane action.” The QB has received 18.7% of MVP bets and has more MVP bets than Mahomes, Allen and Justin Herbert combined.

Let’s dive into where Justin’s 2023 MVP odds actually sit on the board.

Justin Fields on greatest all-time rushing QBs: “I’m definitely in the top five”

Michael Vick joins Colin Cowherd to discuss the latest news in the NFL including Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields.

Fields has struggled as a passer in his two seasons, going 351-for-588 passing (59.7%) for 4,112 yards, 24 touchdown passes, 21 interceptions and a 79.7 passer rating.

The No. 11 pick in 2021 is 5-20 as a starter for the Bears. He received one MVP vote after his historic rushing season, a fifth-place vote in 2022.

So why the MVP optimism on Fields despite the Bears coming off a 3-14 season?

Reinforcements have arrived in Chicago, which traded the No. 1 pick in April’s NFL Draft to Carolina for receiver DJ Moore, two first-round picks and three second-round picks.

And Fields plays the right position to be an MVP candidate — quarterbacks have won the MVP the past 10 seasons and 15 of the previous 16 years.
