ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disneyland entertainers who aid bring Mickey Mouse, Cinderella and other precious characters to life at the Southern California resort selected to unionize following a three-day vote culminating on Saturday.
The Actors’ Equity Association labor union stated in a declaration Saturday that cast members for the parades and characters departments at Disney’s style parks near Los Angeles voted by a broad margin for the union to endedupbeing the bargaining representative for the group of approximately 1,700 employees.
An association site tracking the balloting amongst cast members showed passage by 78.7% (953 votes) in favor and 21.3% (258 votes) opposed.
“They state that Disneyland is ‘the location where dreams come real,’ and for the Disney Cast Members who have worked to arrange a union, their dream came real today,” Actors’ Equity Association President Kate Shindle stated in a declaration Saturday night.
Shindle called the employees the “front lines” of the Disneyland visitor experience. The association and cast members will goover enhancements to health and safey, salaries, advantages, working conditions and task security before conference with Walt Disney Company agents about negotiating the personnel concerns into a agreement, she stated.
The union currently represents theatrical entertainers at Disney’s Florida parks.
