Nigerian authorities and security firms are working to safe the release of 20 medical trainees who were abducted in the eastern part of the nation, authorities state.

The medical trainees were on their method to an yearly convention when they were abducted in Benue State on Thursday night, authorities and university sources stated on Saturday.

The Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students stated in a declaration that the trainees were takingatrip to the convention in the city of Enugu when they were taken.

Fortune Olaye, the secretary-general of the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association, stated 20 medical trainees from 2 universities, as well as one medicalprofessional takingatrip with them, hadactually been abducted.

It included that there hadactually been a ransom need in return for their release.

In a Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) letter to the inspector basic of authorities, published on the social media platform X, NMA secretary-general Benjamin Egbo stated 12 of the abducted trainees were from the University of Jos and 8 were from the University of Maiduguri.

One of the trainees handled to share their place, suggesting that they were in the Oglewu Ehaje location in Benue State, the letter stated.

“The Nigerian Medical Association is deeply worried for the security and wellness of these future medical experts,” it included, stating that swift and definitive action to safeandsecure their return was “crucial”.
