UAE weighs in on Telegram CEO Pavel Durov’s detention by France

The United Arab Emirates has stated it is following carefully the case of Telegram messaging app creator and CEO Pavel Durov – who is an Emirati person – following his arrest and the extension of his preliminary detention by authorities in France.

The Russian-born Durov, 39, was apprehended on Saturday at Paris-Le Bourget Airport in France based on a judicial questions opened last month including 12 declared criminal infractions including his popular Telegram app, the Paris districtattorney’s workplace stated.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a declaration early on Tuesday that it was “closely following” Durov’s case and that it had “submitted a demand to the French federalgovernment to offer him with all consular services urgently”.

“Caring for people, preserving their interests, following up on their affairs, and supplying them with all elements of care are a leading concern for the UAE,” the ministry stated in the declaration.

Though born in Russia, Durov invested much of his youth in Italy and is a person of the UAE, France, Russia, and the Caribbean island country of St Kitts and Nevis.

In his veryfirst public remark on the arrest, French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday that it was not a political relocation however part of an independent examination.
