Nov. 12 (UPI) — A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced previous Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira to 15 years in jail for taking categorized details and sharing it online.

Teixeira, 22, was an airman 1st class and in March pleaded guilty to 6 counts of willful retention of defense records in infraction of the Espionage Act after he shared hundreds of categorized files with others on the Discord social media website.

U.S. District Court of Massachusetts Judge Indira Talwani sentenced Teixeira in part based on a sentencing memo sent by Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy.

Levy stated the “scope of his betrayal is awesome” and the “amount of damage he triggered is countless.”

While attempting to “feed his own ego,” Teixeira triggered “exceptionally tomb damage” to the country’s security by revealing nationwide defense info on the Discord website, Levy included.

Teixeria’s defense lawyers argued he is autistic and felt separated, which they stated triggered him to divulge details online to make brand-new buddies
