MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama House of Representatives on Thursday turneddown Senate modifications to lotto and betting legislation as the 2 chambers stay apart on whether to permit sports wagering and numerous gamblingestablishments in the state.
Representatives voted to sendout the expense to a conference committee. It was the veryfirst legal action on the expense that hasactually been stalled giventhat the Alabama Senate scaled back a sweeping House-passed strategy that would haveactually permitted a lotto, sports wagering and up to 10 gamblingestablishments with table videogames. The Senate variation would not permit sport wagering and would not permit gamblingestablishments outdoors of tribal land.
“The optimism is gone,” Sen. Greg Albritton, who dealtwith the expense in the Senate, stated of his hope of reaching a compromise. He stated some senators haveactually taken difficult lines positions versus sports wagering or enabling gamblingestablishments.
“There is plenty of middle ground. There is plenty of chance. What we are fighting is entrenchment,” Albritton stated.
