MADRID — Algeria on Friday appeared to have backed down in its disagreement with Spain after its objective at the European Union provided a declaration stating the northwest African nation had neverever suspended the relationship treaty it holds with Spain.
In an odd advancement, Algeria stated, “As concerns the declared procedure by the Government to stop present deals with a European partner, it exists in reality just in the minds of those who claim it and those who quickened to stigmatize it.”
There was no instant remark by the Spanish federalgovernment.
The declaration came hours after top European Union authorities stated the bloc was dealingwith the crisis inbetween Algeria and Spain with the “utmost issue” and alerted it was prepared to take action to protect the interests of its members.
The Algerian objective stated it “deplores the rush with which the European Commission has responded without previous assessment or confirmation with the Algerian federalgovernment to Algeria’s suspension of a bilateral political treaty with a European partner, in this case Spain.”
