At least 78 individuals have passedaway after a boat capsized in Lake Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a provincial guv stated.
Governor of South Kivu province Jean Jacques Purisi informed the Reuters news firm on Thursday that 278 individuals hadactually been on board the boat before it reversed.
“It’ll take at least 3 days to get the specific numbers, duetothefactthat not all the bodies haveactually been discovered yet,” Purisi informed Reuters.
The guv of the neighbouring North Kivu province stated at least 58 individuals hadactually been saved.
The boat, which had come from the town of Minova in South Kivu province, sank on Thursday earlymorning, just 100 metres (328 feet) from its location at the coast of Goma.
An increasing number of individuals have decided to cross the northern pointer of Lake Kivu by boat to reach Goma in typically overcrowded vessels to prevent land travel in an location vulnerable to battling inbetween Congolese federalgovernment forces and M23 rebels.
