DALLAS — Boeing is asking federal regulators to exempt a brand-new design of its 737 Max airliner from a security requirement created to avoid part of the engine realestate from gettingtoohot and breaking off throughout flight.

Federal authorities stated last year that Boeing was working to repair the threat on present Max aircrafts. In the meantime, they informed pilots to limitation usage of an anti-icing system in some conditions to prevent damage that “could outcome in loss of control of the aircraft.”

Without a repair prepared, Boeing asked the Federal Aviation Administration last month for an exemption to security requirements associated to engine inlets and the anti-ice system through May2026 Boeing requires the exemption to start providing the brand-new, smallersized Max 7 to airlinecompanies.

Boeing stated Friday that it is “developing a long-lasting option” that would face FAA evaluation.

But some critics are raising alarms about basing security on pilots keepinginmind when to limitation usage of the anti-ice system.

“You get our attention when you state individuals may get eliminated,” Dennis Tajer, a representative for American Airlines pilots, informed The Seattle Times, which reported on the waiver demand Friday. “We’re not interested in seeing exemptions and lodgings that depend on human memory … there’s simply got to be a muchbetter
