WASHINGTON — Pfizer got complete approval on Thursday for its COVID-19 tablet Paxlovid that’s been the go-to treatment versus the coronavirus.
More than 11 million prescriptions for Paxlovid haveactually been given consideringthat the Food and Drug Administration permitted emergencysituation usage in late2021 The emergencysituation status was based on early researchstudies and was planned to be short-lived pending follow-up researchstudy.
The FDA approved complete approval for grownups with COVID-19 who face high threats of extreme illness, which can lead to hospitalization or death. That group generally consistsof older grownups and those with typical medical conditions like diabetes, asthma and weightproblems.
The choice permits Pfizer’s drug to stay on the market forever and to be marketed likewise to other drugs.
The tablet is still offered for kids ages 12 to 17 under a different emergencysituation permission.
