A Spanish court has ruled that ex-Barcelona and Brazil footballer Dani Alves can be conditionally launched from prison after serving about a quarter of his sentence for rape. Alves, who was sentenced to 4 and a half years in jail last month, will be launched on a €1m (£853,000) bail. He hadactually been held in pre-trial detention giventhat January2023 The 40-year-old was discovered guilty of raping a lady in a Barcelona club in December2022 The victim’s legalrepresentative called the choice “a scandal”. The conditions for his release consistof turning over both his Brazilian and Spanish passports so he cannot leave Spain. He needsto likewise appear before the court on a weekly basis. The court furthermore enforced a limiting order, avoiding him from approaching the victim. The judgment came a day after Alves’ attorney askedfor his release on the premises that he had currently served a quarter of his sentence in pre-trial detention following his arrest.
