PARIS — French union activists marched on the headoffice of the Paris Olympics and slowed traffic at the capital’s Orly Airport with strikes Tuesday as they lookedfor to reignite resistance to a greater retirement age.
But the desperate effort drew less fans than at the height of the motion earlier this year, and even some union leaders appeared allset to relocation on.
President Emmanuel Macron’s relocation to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 — and force the step through parliament without a vote — swollen public feelings and setoff some of France’s mostsignificant presentations in years. But the strength of anger over the pension reform has receded because the last huge demonstrations on May 1, and giventhat the procedure endedupbeing law in April.
As part of Tuesday’s actions, a 3rd of flights were canceled at Paris’ Orly Airport duetothefactthat of strikes, and about 10% of trains around France were interrupted. Around 250 marches, rallies and other actions were prepared around the nation to mark the 14th day of nationwide demonstration giventhat January over the pension reform.
