BRUSSELS — The European Union and the United States are treading precariously close to a significant trans-Atlantic trade conflict at a time when the 2 Western giants desire to program unity in the face of obstacles from Russia and China.

EU trade ministers on Friday firmlyinsisted they would be required to respond if Washington stuck to all the terms of its Inflation Reduction Act, which is beneficial to regional business through aids and, according to the EU, will unjustly discriminate versus its companies that desire to contend for agreements.
