TOKYO — Flights and trains in the Tokyo location were canceled Friday, and individuals were cautioned of strong winds, heavy rains and prospective flooding and mudslides as a hurricane swerved near Japan on its method additional north in the Pacific Ocean.
Typhoon Ampil was projection to reach the waters near Tokyo in the night then continue north, taking rainy conditions to the northern Kanto and Tohoku areas early Saturday. It had sustained winds of 162 kph (101 milesperhour) with greater gusts Friday earlymorning and was moving north at 15 kph (9.3 milesperhour), the Japan Meteorological Agency stated. Ampil was not anticipated to make landfall and would deteriorate to a tropical storm by Sunday.
