DETROIT — The U.S. federalgovernment’s vehicle security company has opened an examination into a Ford recall for gas leakages from broken fuel injectors that can cause engine fires, stating in files that the treatment doesn’t repair the leakages.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated in files published Friday that the probe will “evaluate the adequacy and security effects of the solution” that Ford defines in the recall.

The company moved with uncommon speed, publishing files detailing the “recall inquiry” simply 2 days after the recall was made public.

The recall covers almost 43,000 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 design years, and Escape SUVs from2022 All have 1.5-liter engines.

NHTSA stated that fuel injectors can break, triggering gas or vapors to leakage at a high rate onto hot surfaceareas in the engine compartment.
