(AFP picture) PARIS: TikTok influencers and stars are progressively taking over from reporters as the primary source of news for young individuals, according to a report released Wednesday by the Britain-based Reuters Institute. The report discovered that 55% of TikTok and Snapchat users and 52% of Instagram users get their news from “personalities” — compared to 33% to 42% who get it from mainstream media and reporters on those platforms, which are most popular amongst the young. The figures were based on interviews with some 94,000 individuals throughout 46 nations, performed for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, part of Britain’s University of Oxford. “While mainstream reporters typically lead discussions around news in Twitter and Facebook, they battle to get attention in morerecent networks like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok,” the report stated.
