WASHINGTON — A federal judge has turneddown the Justice Department’s quote to block a significant U.S. sugar producer from getting its competing, cleaning the method for the acquisition to continue.
The judgment, handed down Friday by a federal judge in Wilmington, Delaware, comes months after the Justice Department tooklegalactionagainst to shot to stop the offer inbetween U.S. Sugar and Imperial Sugar Company, one of the biggest sugar refiners in the country. The federalgovernment had argued that permitting the acquisition to go through would be hazardous to customers and anticompetitive.
U.S. Sugar has argued that the acquisition will boost production and circulation of fine-tuned sugar and offer a more safe supply.
