Moldova’s pro-EU leader Sandu states re-election triumph

(Reuters image) Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated triumph in a important election on Sunday, a win that will boost her aspiration to guide the previous Soviet republic into the European Union by the end of the years.  The ex-World Bank main’s re-election quote was a test of the strength of pro-EU belief in Europe’s eastern periphery. A string of current tallies laid bare gains in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to stop a turn to the West.  “We showed that unified we can defeat those who desired to bring us to our knees,” Sandu informed pressreporters early Monday in Chisinau.  Sandu protected more than 55% of the vote with initial results from 99% of ballot stations tallied, according to the nation’s Central Electoral Commission. She led Alexandr Stoianoglo, a previous leading districtattorney who promised to preserve strong ties with the Kremlin.
