PORTLAND, Ore. — Pacific Power, part of PacifiCorp, stated Monday it has concurred to a $178 million settlement with over 400 Oregon complainants in the mostcurrent multimillion-dollar payment associated to the fatal 2020 wildfires that damaged the state.
In other cases that haveactually gone to trial over the past year, Oregon juries in several decisions haveactually purchased PacifiCorp to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to victims. Ongoing lawsuits might leave it on the hook for billions.
The bulk of the 403 complainants in the settlement Monday were impacted by the Echo Mountain Complex Fire that ravaged Oregon’s main coast, stated George McCoy, one of the complainants’ lawyers, while others were affected by the Santiam Fire that raved east of the state capital Salem in northwestern Oregon.
