WARSAW, Poland — Poland’s president on Monday called on other members of the NATO alliance to raise their costs on defense to 3% of their gross domestic item as Russia puts its economy on a war footing and presses forward with its intrusion of Ukraine.
President Andrzej Duda made his call in remarks directed at home and abroad. His appeal came on the eve of a checkout to the White House, where U.S. President Joe Biden will get both Duda and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Tuesday.
“In the face of the war in Ukraine and Russia’s growing royal goals, the nations making up NATO needsto act boldly and uncompromisingly,” Duda stated in a Monday night address to his country.
His appeal comes at Poland marks the 25th anniversary of its accession to NATO, along with the Czech Republic and Hungary, on March 12, 1999.
“Poland is proud to haveactually been a part of it for 25 years,” he stated. “There hasactually been and there is no muchbetter guarantor of security than the North Atlantic Alliance.”
“The war in Ukraine has plainly revealed that the United States is and must stay the leader in security concerns in Europe and the world,” Duda stated in his speech to his country. “However, other NATO nations should likewise take higher obligation for the security of the whole alliance and intensively update and enhance their soldiers.”
Duda’s remarks came on the verysame day that Sweden’s flag was raised
