A giant smokestack that was part of the landscape for millions of travelers heading to beaches on the southern New Jersey coast is coming down Thursday earlymorning

UPPER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — For years, travelers heading to the New Jersey beach resorts of Ocean City and Cape May saw the towering smokestack of the B.L. England Generating Station as they zipped past it on the Garden State Parkway.
The 463-foot-tall (141.1-meter) stack was a regional landmark and even a weathercondition forecaster for some citizens who glanced outside to see which method emissions from its leading were blowing, and how quick, as they chose what to wear for the day.
But the power plant, which burned coal and oil over the years, closed in May 2019, a casualty of the worldwide relocation away from burning fossil fuels.
And the smokestack, the last significant staying piece of the plant, will be imploded at 10 a.m. EDT Thursday, brought down by dynamites tactically positioned by a demolition business recognized in the location for takingdown the previous Trump Plaza gamblingestablishment in close-by Atlantic City in 2021.
