An Italian-led group of scientists states the cavern might be utilized to shelter future astronauts and explorers.

Scientists have validated an underground cavern on the moon not far from where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed 55 years ago and suspect there are hundreds more that might home future astronauts.
An Italian-led group of researchers on Monday stated there is proof of a considerable cavern, available from the inmost understood pit on the moon. The cavern is situated at the Sea of Tranquility, 400km (250 miles) from Apollo 11’s landing website.
The researchers stated the pit, like more than 200 others found on the moon, was developed by the collapse of a lava tube.
“Lunar caves have stayed a secret for over 50 years. So it was interesting to be able to lastly show the presence” of one, Leonardo Carrer and Lorenzo Bruzzone of the University of Trento informed The Associated Press in an e-mail.
