Supreme Court takes Jack Daniel’s case versus canine toy maker

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court stated Monday it will hear a disagreement over a pet toy that got scotch maker Jack Daniel’s barking mad.

Jack Daniel’s had asked the justices to hear its case versus the maker of the plastic Bad Spaniels toy. The toy mimics the Jack Daniel’s bottle and label however is a parody. While the initial bottle has the words “Old No. 7 brandname” and “Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey,” the parody announces: “The Old No. 2 on Your Tennessee Carpet.” Instead of the initial’s note that it is 40% alcohol by volume, the parody states it’s “43% Poo by Vol.” and “100% Smelly.”

A number of significant business from the makers of Campbell Soup to outside brandname Patagonia and denims maker Levi Strauss had prompted the justices to take what they stated was an essential case for hallmark law.
