SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — At least one U.S. airlinecompany on Friday briefly canceled flights to Haiti’s capital after gang members opened fire and hit a U.N. helicopter flying near the nation’s primary airport.
Spirit Airlines stated in a declaration to The Associated Press that its everyday flight from Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince hasactually been suspended through Sunday.
“The security of our visitors and group members is a concern,” the Florida-based airlinecompany stated, including that it was carefully tracking the circumstance.
The statement comes a day after a U.N. helicopter was struck by shooting, requiring it to make an emergencysituation landing in Port-au-Prince soon after it had left the primary airport.
The U.N. Humanitarian Air Service helicopter, which was bring 3 team members and 15 guests, landed securely, according to the World Food Program.
