Venezuela protects military accumulation, implicating surrounding Guyana of approving unlawful oil agreements

CARACAS, Venezuela — The federalgovernment of Venezuela implicated surrounding Guayana Sunday of approving prohibited oil expedition concessions in area the 2 countries are contesting. Venezuela stated it would reserve the right to take any diplomatic actions required.

The remarks Sunday came after Guyana stated Saturday that it has satellite images proving Venezuelan military motions near the South American nation’s eastern border with Guyana.

Venezuela’s declaration did not reject Guyana’s claim of a military and facilities accumulation. Rather, it stated it was within its rights to beef up its border forces.

Venezuela declared Guayana had gave “illegal oil concessions … in a maritime location that is indisputably Venezuelan.”

Oil giant ExxonMobil has stated it will keep ramping up production in overseas fields off Guyana inspiteof the escalation of the territorial disagreement.

The 2 sides have feuded over border lines for years. Venezuela hasactually been laying claim to the mineral-rich Essequibo area, which covers about 2 thirds of Guyana’s surfacearea location.
