US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that India has agreed to remove its high tariffs on American goods, a move he framed as a major win for US trade policy.
Speaking from the Oval Office alongside visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump claimed India had already committed to dropping its tariffs “to nothing.”
“India, as an example, has one of the highest tariffs in the world,” Trump told reporters.
“We’re not going to put up with that, and they’ve agreed already to drop it. They’ll drop it to nothing. They’ve already agreed. They would have never done that for anybody else but me.”

Trump used the opportunity to reiterate his administration’s broader approach to trade, saying the U.S. will demand fair terms from all trading partners.
