Reality Mix: SICARIA

SICARIA dives into her individual dogcrates and playlists to relocation through some of the affects behind her brand-new noise.

Lou Nour hasactually been flying the flag for the longlasting tradition of dubstep for the last coupleof years. Alongside Sancha Ndeko, as one half of Sicaria Sound, she injected fresh vigor into the UK scene, playing as the veryfirst citizens of Deep Medi Musik, setting up their own label, Cutcross Recordings and shelling every club and celebration they touched. Now, the artists are creating their own courses: Ndeko as Mia Koden and Nour as SICARIA, which she explains as “like Sicaria Sound, however on steroids.” Embracing a more muscular, abrasive sound, SICARIA’s choices see her tapping into high energy and loose crowds, a hardcore spirit evidenced by her current Keep Hush set and the worlds-colliding insanity of her Kindred Radio session, alongwith Peekaboo, Flowdan, M1onTheBeat, Sarz and Skrillex.

However this just sheds light on one element of SICARIA, as she continues the Sicaria Sound tradition of magnifying the abundant musical customs of SWANA areas through the low-end throb of the UK’s own bass music culture. Sicaria Sounds’s 2021 track ‘Fifth Gear’ is developed around high-velocity North African drum patterns, while SICARIA’s brand-new tune, ‘Still Swingin,’ leaves from dubstep to draw from the trance-inducing rhythms of gnawa music, Moroccan spiritual tunes madeup from duplicated expressions to be carriedout as part of complex spiritual events. It’s the veryfirst taste of her brand-new EP, Blood, Sweat and Self, which she will release on a brand-new label, Club Confi:DANCE, and which her Fact mix is developed to accompany.

“I set out to craft a sonic journey that matches my upcoming launching EP,” Nour states. “I’m primarily understood for playing high energy dubstep skankers or enjoyable booty shakers in my DJ sets. This mix is about more than simply what’s on my USB – it’s a dive into my individual dogcrates and playlists. In specific it’s enabled me to delve into the affects behind each track: whether through the category or the artists who influence my innovative procedure. I visualize this mix as a journey matching the design of Blood, Sweat and Self: kicking off with percussive bass, diving into familiar dubstep areas, transitioning into 4×4 dance cuts, and ending in sweet melodic sounds -sprinkled with vocal percies – all teetering around 140 BPM.”

You can discover SICARIA on Instagram. ‘Still Swingin’ is out now, with Blood, Sweat and Self showingup bymeansof Club Confi:DANCE on November 17th.
