CORIN carriesout a sci-fi soundtrack for the present in a hybrid, world-building efficiency.

Inspired in part by the expansion of online efficiency and digital avatars throughout and in the wake of the pandemic, multidisciplinary artist CORIN desires to blur the limits inbetween the virtual and the physical within her audiovisual practice. With Lux Aeterna, a cooperation with Malaysian/Australian multimedia artist Tristan Jalleh, real-time videofootage of the artist is boosted with visual impacts, transfiguring an version of CORIN’s live AV program into a digital environment that draws from the sci-fi worlds of Dune and Raised by Wolves. “Usually, whatever we do is about establishing the environment, structure something that is cohesive and in-depth and would function on its own,” discusses Jalleh. “But when we recorded, we understood that the efficiency had to be the primary focus.” Combining CORIN’s exploratory method to secrets and a outfit affected by Filipino mythology, created by Filipinx efficiency artist Justin Shoulder and Anthony Aitch, the artists broaden the efficiency into its own circumstances of world-building.

“The primary thing that stuck was the concept of a desert landscape – a futuristic world where makers are powered by the sun,” includes CORIN. “I was reading about ancient cultures that worshiped the sun and was interested to combine these ancient concepts with something futuristic. I was likewise investigating the hydraulis – an early type of organ powered by water. Thinking about ancient musical instruments as spirits, spiritual items, extensions of our physical presence, vessels or websites into another. How might we develop an instrument that’s ancient and future at the verysame time – that was the core concept.” It’s this verysame desire that influenced CORIN to name her brand-new album after 20th century author György Ligeti’s choral piece, which was iconically utilized to offer noise to the monolith in 2001: A Srate Odyssey. Using granular synthesis to upgrade Ligeti’s usage of micropolyphony in the age of maker findingout, CORIN looksfor to compose sci-fi soundtracks for the present by picturing “a semi-utopic vision of the future where the staying facilities of the earth is powered simply by natural resources.”
