Yagamoto x United Visual Artists

Yagamoto x United Visual Artists

A physical analysis of the Chromatic setup’s expedition of the consistency of type, colour and noise.

For this unique efficiency, motion director and 180 Studios citizen Yagamoto immersed himself inside Chromatic, one of the lotsof striking works inside United Visual Artists’ Synchronicity exhibit. Chromatic is motivated by chromeosthesis, a type of synesthesia where noise stimulates impressions of colour, shape and motion – a idea showed in Yagamoto’s natural reaction to the setup.

Chromatic was produced by UVA in cooperation with author Daniel J Thibault, who was able to play the setup like an instrument thanks to the softwareapplication that drives it. This concept of guy and device working together is likewise mirrored in Yagamoto’s analysis of the work, in which he appears to play in time with the generative music.

For more insight into Chromatic, watch our interview with Thibault and UVA’s Jon Skerritt. Synchronicity is open upuntil 30 December, 2023 at London’s 180 Studios and includes numerous brand-new works consistingof Polyphony and Ensemble as well as site-specific variations of works from the cumulative developed over the past 20 years.
