College football Week 10 live updates: Washington-USC, LSU-Alabama, more

Week 10 of the 2023 college football season was a wild ride, and we’ve got you covered with all of Saturday’s must-see moments!

Kicking things off, No. 7 Texas outlasted No. 23 Kansas State in overtime on FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff.” Recap the action here. Also in the early window, top-ranked Ohio State took down Big Ten foe Rutgers, No. 10 Ole Miss survived Texas A&M in an all-important SEC West tilt, and No. 15 Notre Dame suffered a road upset at the hands of unranked Clemson. 

The afternoon slate was highlighted by No. 22 Oklahoma State’s upset win over No. 9 Oklahoma in the final Bedlam game for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, No. 2 Georgia outlasted No. 12 Missouri and No. 11 Penn State took down Maryland.

The night slate was highlighted by a pair of ranked matchups. No. 5 Washington remained undefeated, traveling to Los Angeles and defeating No. 20 USC in a high-scoring battle, 52-42. Meanwhile, No. 14 LSU wasn’t able to play spoiler to No. 8 Alabama for a second straight season as the Crimson Tide pulled away in the second half with a 42-28 win. Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels went down with a concussion early in the fourth quarter, hurting LSU’s chances of a comeback. Also, No. 3 Michigan took care of business against Purdue, winning 41-13.

Here are the top moments!

No. 8 Alabama 42, No. 14 LSU 28

No one near Nabers

Malik Nabers split the Alabama defense, getting wide open deep down the field to allow Jayden Daniels to easily connect with him for a 46-yard touchdown to give LSU an early 7-0 lead. 

Milroe on the move

Jalen Milroe got a chance to score with his legs in the first quarter, helping Alabama respond to LSU’s touchdown with a 23-yard touchdown run of his own to tie it. 

Milroe on the move again

Alabama’s QB rushed for his second touchdown of the game late in the first quarter, turning a QB sneak on third-and-1 into a 4-yard touchdown.

Daniels doing it on his own

LSU’s QB executed the keeper play to perfection, running right up the middle for a 9-yard score to tie the game up in the second quarter.

A hat trick for Milroe

Milroe found the end zone for the third time in the first half with just over a minute left, blazing past LSU’s defense for a 21-yard touchdown to give Alabama a 21-14 lead.

Daniels dime

Daniels added his third touchdown of the game in the final seconds of the half, finding Kyren Lacy for a 26-yard touchdown to even it up right before the break.

How did he catch that?

Nabers showed his elite receiving ability on LSU’s opening drive of the second half, somehow keeping a foot inbounds on a deep reception to help set the Tigers up for a touchdown to take a 28-21 lead.

Track meet in Tuscaloosa

Once again, Alabama responded to LSU’s score to open up the second half, tying the game up at 28-28 when Roydell Williams ran right up the middle for a 16-yard touchdown. 

More Milroe touchdowns 

Alabama’s QB was on the run again late in the third quarter, rushing for his fourth touchdown of the game to give Alabama a 35-28 lead.

Daniels goes down

LSU’s star QB committed the first turnover of the game when he threw an interception on one of the opening plays of the fourth quarter, giving Alabama good field position to take a 42-28 lead. When LSU got the ball back, Daniels went down on its first play, getting driven into the ground as he was being pressured on a deep pass. Daniels came out of the game and returned for a play before being removed from the game again.

No. 5 Washington 52, No. 20 USC 42

Caleb hits the spin cycle

Caleb Williams dazzled on USC’s opening drive, making plays with his arm and legs to move the Trojans down the field. On a keeper on third-and-1, Williams ran enough yards for the first down before spinning out of a possible tackle by a Washington defender. That play helped set up Raleek Brown’s 2-yard touchdown run.

Dillon is in

Dillon Johnson helped the Huskies respond right away to the Trojans’ opening score, running right up the middle for a 2-yard score to even things up. 

Big block

USC’s special teams helped out in a big way toward the end of the first quarter, coming up with a punt block to give the Trojans’ offense great field position. Not long after, Williams rushed for a 1-yard score to put USC up, 14-7.

Penix prevails

Michael Penix made one of the most impressive plays of his Heisman-caliber season in the second quarter. The Washington QB scrambled around in the pocket for ages on third-and-18, running sideline to sideline before launching a pass down the field to Devin Culp in the end zone for a touchdown to tie the game. 

Trickery to Tahj!

Lincoln Riley dialed up some trickeration with the game tied, 21-21. He ran a confusing-looking flea flicker, with Williams getting the ball back and launching a pass down the field to a wide-open Tahj Washington to give the Trojans a 28-21 lead.

Polk making plays

Ja’Lynn Polk came up big in Washington’s penultimate drive of the first half, making a big outstretched grab down the field for a 30-plus-yard gain to get the Huskies into Trojans territory. Shortly after, Polk came up with the grab in the end zone to tie the game up, 28-28.

Williams loses it

USC’s star QB made a rare blunder with a minute left in the half, losing the ball as he tried to elude the Washington pass rush. The Huskies were able to take over at the Trojans’ 12-yard line, scoring shortly after to take 35-28 going into halftime. 

Williams spinning again, this time for a touchdown

The reigning Heisman winner made a play similar to what Penix made in the first half, spinning out of a sack before lobbing a pass to Brenden Rice for a 25-yard touchdown that tied the game, 35-35.

Penix power

Penix added a touchdown with his legs, sneaking one in from 1-yard out to give Washington a 42-35 lead in the third quarter.

Williams²

Williams continued to score touchdowns in dazzling ways through the end of the third quarter. The USC QB completed a throw through a tight window along the side of the end zone to Mario Williams for a 20-yard touchdown to tie the game up, 42-42.

Johnson does it again

Johnson rushed into the end zone for the fourth time in the game for the Huskies, giving Washington a 52-42 lead with just over two minutes left.

No. 3 Michigan 41, Purdue 13

Air Corum

Blake Corum got busy in the first quarter, rushing for a pair of short touchdowns to help give Michigan an early 14-0 lead. On his second touchdown run, the star running back went airborne into the end zone for six. 

Will Johnson will take that

Right after Michigan took a 14-0, its star corner intercepted Hudson Card to help give the Wolverines prime field position, allowing them to go up, 17-0. 

See ya, Semaj!

Semaj Morgan hit the jets on the end around, speeding down the field for a 44-yard touchdown run to get Michigan back in the end zone for the first time since the first quarter and give the Wolverines a 27-6 lead late in the third.

No. 11 Penn State 51, Maryland 15

Making moves

Maryland turned the ball over on downs to start the game, and Penn State capitalized immediately, as QB Drew Allar found wideout Dante Cephas for a quick 6-yard score.

Going all out

Penn State ran a trick play a few yards out from the goal line late in the first quarter, with Allar lining out wide before motioning inside to get the pitch. Maryland read Penn State’s trickery well, getting Allar in its grasp in the backfield, but the Nittany Lions QB flipped the ball to Theo Johnson for a touchdown to take a 14-0 lead.

Maryland enters the chat

The Terrapins found their way on the scoreboard in the middle of the second quarter. QB Taulia Tagovailoa led Maryland downfield, setting up a first-and-goal from Penn State’s 7-yard line. On first down, Tagovailoa pump faked Penn State’s defense, following the opponent in order to get Roman Hemby the space needed to make a reception and score. 

On the mark

Allar found Cephas again for a fourth-quarter touchdown, this time connecting with him on a fade for a 15-yard score that give the Nittany Lions a 31-7 lead.

Finishing strong

Tai Felton turned an ordinary first-down reception into a scoring opportunity for Maryland, making a grab along the sideline before pushing through Penn State defenders as he was eventually tackled just in front of the goal line. Maryland scored on the next play and converted on the two-point conversion to make it a 31-15 game early in the fourth quarter.

The Nittany Lions continued to apply pressure late, cruising to a 30-plus-point victory on the road.

No. 22 Oklahoma State 27, No. 9 Oklahoma 24

Battling early

Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon II got the scoring started with a 20-yard touchdown to put the Cowboys up early, 7-0.

Back and forth

Oklahoma’s Gavin Sawchuk answered with a monster run, taking off 64 yards for a touchdown to knot things up 7-all.

Barreling through for six

Oklahoma State QB Alan Bowman got his chance to make a play with his legs. At the start of the second quarter, Bowman ran right up the middle and found his way into the end zone for a 12-yard score to extend the Cowboys’ lead, 17-7. 

Tawee says “Whee!” into the end zone

Tawee Walker made the most on his first touch of the game, taking the handoff out of the backfield and running into the end zone without much resistance for a 23-yard score, giving Oklahoma a 21-17 lead in the third quarter.

OK State back on top

Gordon found his way into the end zone for the second time of the game in the middle of the fourth quarter, rushing for a 1-yard score to cap off a 97-yard to give Oklahoma State the lead. That score ultimately sealed the win for the Cowboys.

No. 2 Georgia 30, No. 12 Missouri 21

Tigers take the lead

Georgia was first on the board with a field goal on its opening drive, but Mizzou was first in the end zone. QB Brady Cook connected with WR Luther Burden III for a 39-yard score to give the Tigers a 7-3 edge early in the first quarter.

Lovett loves the play

Georgia was able to take its first lead of the game when QB Carson Beck marched the Bulldogs downfield on a drive that took over seven minutes before hitting Dominic Lovett on a screen. Lovett didn’t have to do much dirty work, following his blockers to run into the end for a clean 6-yard score that gave Georgia a 10-7 lead at the start of the second quarter.

Regaining the lead

After Mizzou took a 13-10 lead to open up the second half, Georgia responded with a bigger scoring drive of its own when Kendall Milton capped off the 65-yard drive by rushing for a 15-yard score, giving the Bulldogs a 17-13 lead.

Back-to-back TDs

Beck & Co. found a rhythm to start the second half. On their second possession of the half, the Bulldogs were methodical with how they moved the ball, taking 10 plays to go 65 yards before Beck connected with Oscar Delp to make it 24-13.

Mizzou makes it interesting 

Shortly after Georgia extended its lead, Missouri climbed back into it. It went on a nine-play, 75-yard drive that ended with RB Cody Schrader rushing for a 12-yard score. 

With the two-point conversion, Missouri made it a 24-21 game with just under 13 minutes left. In the end, Georgia added two field goals to help seal the win, narrowly escaping Mizzou, 30-21.

No. 10 Ole Miss 38, Texas A&M 35

Maximum effort!

Ole Miss was first on the board with a 9-yard score from star running back Quinshon Judkins midway through the first quarter that was set up by a beautiful 39-yard connection between QB Jaxson Dart and wideout Tre Harris.

Seeing double

Judkins continued to put in some serious work to give the Rebels good field position. His 18-yard pickup early in the second quarter set up another Dart-Harris score — that you have to see to believe — to boost the Rebels’ lead, 14-0.

Blocked!

Texas A&M got on the board in the second quarter when Ole Miss’ field-goal attempt was blocked and returned 68 yards.

Quick answer

The Rebels fired back with a score of their own, as Dart found Jordan Watkins for a dazzling 29-yard touchdown.

All for nothing

Rebels safety John Saunders Jr. spoiled a trip to the red zone for the Aggies, picking off QB Max Johnson in the end zone.

Unreal!

Dart found Harris for 40-yard gain and a massive first down midway through the third quarter. That set up a perfect opportunity for Judkins’ fancy footwork to extend Ole Miss’ lead, 28-14.

Knocking on the door

Texas A&M found a rhythm in the third quarter, as QB Johnson connected with his brother Jake Johnson for a 28-yard TD.

For the win!

The Aggies added two fourth-quarter scores to bring things down to the wire, but it all came down to the final seconds when Texas A&M attempted what would have been the game-tying field goal to send things to overtime.

Instead, the Rebels came away with the win after getting a hand on the kick and denying the Aggies.

No. 1 Ohio State 35, Rutgers 16

Over-the-shoulder TD

Buckeyes tight end Gee Scott Jr. had an impressive over-the-shoulder grab in the end zone to start things off for Ohio State, which took an early 7-0 lead.

Trick play!

On fourth-and-1 from its own 43-yard line, Rutgers opted to go for it — picking up 45 yards in the process that resulted in a field goal to close the gap slightly, 7-3.

Interception!

Ohio State QB Kyle McCord was intercepted late in the second quarter by Rutgers linebacker Mohamed Toure, who was run out bounds at the 46-yard line. Rutgers capitalized on the turnover with a field goal and took a 9-7 halftime lead.

Pick 6!

Buckeyes CB Jordan Hancock got an interception of his own, picking off Rutgers QB Gavin Wimsatt and taking the ball 93 yards to the house to give Ohio State the lead, 14-9.

Then, star RB TreVeyon Henderson extended the Buckeyes’ lead after making everyone miss on his way to the end zone for a 9-yard score.

Get up there!

Rutgers fired back with a score of its own, but Ohio State had all the momentum in the second half. 

Henderson grabbed a huge 65-yard gain for the Buckeyes, setting up the ensuing score. Marvin Harrison Jr. grabbed a touchdown after leaping for a pass in the end zone to push the Buckeyes ahead by 12 and help seal the win.

Clemson 31, No. 15 Notre Dame 23

Going, going, gone!

Clemson RB Phil Mafah got his seventh rushing score of the year, taking the ball 41 yards to the house to give the Tigers their first score of the day and a 7-3 lead.

Pick 6!

Notre Dame QB Sam Hartman’s pass was intercepted by Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who took the ball all the way to the end zone for an 8-yard score and extended Clemson’s lead to 24-9 at the half.

Turbo speed

Hartman showed off his speed, rushing for a 26-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to cut Clemson’s lead, 31-23, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback, and the Fighting Irish picked up their third loss on the season.

With the win, Clemson picked up its first win against a ranked opponent this season. What’s more, head coach Dabo Swinney recorded his 166th career win as Clemson head coach, passing Frank Howard for the most in program history.
