Kyle Filipowski returning to Duke, first-class Mackenzie Mgbako asks for release

Duke’s males’s basketball program has had an eventful 24 hours.

On Monday earlymorning, captain Jeremy Roach revealed he will state for the 2023 NBA Draft while preserving his college eligibility, leaving the door open for a prospective return to Durham. Then, on Tuesday earlymorning, the Blue Devils’ leading scorer, Kyle Filipowski, revealed his choice to return to Duke for his sophomore season.

The news did not stop there as first-class forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who dedicated to Duke and is thoughtabout to be one of the leading potentialcustomers in the 2023 class, askedfor a release from his letter of intent quickly after Filipowski made his choice to return public.

Filipowski was one of the leading freshmen in the country this past season, averaging a team-best 15.1 points and 8.9 rebounds while leading Duke to a 27-9 record and an ACC Tournament title. The 7-foot proficient huge guy tape-recorded 16 double-doubles this season en path to being called the ACC Freshman of the Year.

Mgbako revealed his prepares to demand a release from his Duke dedication less than 30 minutes after Filipowski published a video on Twitter revealing his return.

“After long believed, prayers and conversations with my momsanddads and reliedon consultants, I am composing to officially demand a release from my NLI to Duke University,” Mgbako composed in a post on Twitter. “While I have fantastic gratitude and regard for the Duke training personnel and fans for their interest in me, I feel that there will be other locations for me to continue my basketball journey, so I will be re-opening the recruiting procedure to all schools. Sending a huge thanks to all my fans, goodfriends and household for continuing to program love.”

Mgbako, who stands at 6-foot-8, 210 pounds, revealed his dedication to Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils back on April 8, 2022, and signed his letter of dedication this past November. He was the highest-ranked hire in Duke’s 2023 class, which ranked No. 2 in the country, per 247Sports.com. He is the No. 2-ranked power forward in the class and the No. 7 total possibility.

Before revealing his dedication, Mgbako launched a top-four list, which consistedof Kentucky, Memphis and Ohio State, in addition to Duke.
