Thomas not ‘100 percent,’ uncertain for Saints minicamp

New Orleans Saints All-Pro broad receiver Michael Thomas is still dealing with an ankle injury that expense him half the 2020-21 project and all of last season.

And his status stays uncertain as the 2022-23 NFL season methods.

On Thursday, Saints head coach Dennis Allen exposed that Thomas is uncertain to getinvolved in the group’s compulsory minicamp, per Bleacher Report, inspiteof previous reports that Thomas was a lock to return to the field this season after nearly a two-year layoff.

“I think psychologically he’s in a terrific location and, onceagain, we’re simply going to let that procedure play out and get him healthy,” Allen stated. “And appearance, we have a long time to go priorto we play a videogame. I’m not looking for a big dive, I simply desire to see him keep getting a little muchbetter every day.

“We feel excellent about what Mike’s done in the rehabilitation procedure. There are still a coupleof obstacles that we’ve gotta climb — with any of our people that had any injuries [that] they’re attempting to get back from.”

That stated, the concern stays: Can Thomas return to the gamer that he assoonas was?

“I definitely hope so,” Allen stated of the three-time Pro Bowler. “I think that’s what all our objectives are. I couldn’t response that concern, however that’s definitely what we expect and hope.”

Thomas has balanced 117.5 captures, 1,378 backyards and 8 goals per season throughout the veryfirst 4 years of his profession with New Orleans. In 2019, his last complete year played, Thomas published an NFL record 149 captures in 2019 for 1,725 backyards en path to endingupbeing the 2019 NFL Offensive Player of the Year. 

He played in 7 videogames (five begins) throughout the 2020-21 season while dealing with ankle and hamstring injuries priorto missingouton the whole 2021-22 project after goingthrough surgicaltreatment the offseason prior.

With Thomas’ status up in the air, and QB Jameis Winston working his method back to complete strength for New Orleans, the Saints refilled at the large receiver position this offseason with first-round draft choice Chris Olave and totallyfree representative acquisition Jarvis Landry to signupwith the likes of as Marquez Callaway and Tre’Quan Smith.

Thomas signed a five-year, $96-million agreement extension in2019 He is set to count $13.1 million versus the Saints’ income cap in 2022, per Pro Football Network.
