I used to disagree with my mom about saving the fancy tableware for special occasions. But once again, she was right (look Mama, it’s in print!). Once my mom’s crystal wine glasses hits my lips on Thanksgiving, I’m transported to the holiday zone, and there are few feelings quite as sacred. After a glance around the table at my loved ones, I tuck into a meal that brings me immense pleasure and satisfaction.

But I have to admit that when I think about Thanksgiving now, my first reaction isn’t one of joy or tradition. I usually inhale sharply thinking about how expensive groceries have gotten. I know that I’m not alone in this thinking, as bleak as it may be. And mind you, I’m usually a glass-half-full kind of person!
