Miki Sudo and James Webb earn GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title
(RestaurantNews.com) Geoffrey Esper of Oxford, MA, the #3-ranked eater in the world, consumed 51 Taco Cabana Bean and Cheese Tacos to set a new world record and claim the taco-eating title at the Taco Cabana World Taco Eating Championship in San Antonio, TX, on Saturday, September 20.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ and Major League Eating (MLE) oversaw top-ranked eaters from across the globe at the inaugural taco-eating championship, held at the Taco Cabana location in San Antonio. The event delivered two historic milestones: a new world record for the most soft-shell tacos eaten in 8 minutes and a Guinness World Records™ title for the most tacos eaten in one minute.
In the eight-minute, all-you-can-eat showdown, Esper downed 51 tacos to edge out Australia’s James Webb, with 48.5 tacos, and Gideon Oji, who secured third with 32 tacos. Eleven-time hot dog eating champion Miki Sudo finished fourth with 31.5 tacos. The winners split a $10,000 total prize purse.
James Webb and Miki Sudo each consumed nine tacos in one minute, earning a Guinness World Records™ title for the most tacos eaten in one minute.
Competitors battled using Taco Cabana’s beloved Bean and Cheese Tacos, a fan favorite for nearly five decades. Featuring refried beans and shredded cheese wrapped in a warm flour tortilla, these iconic tacos took center stage in San Antonio for the first time in brand history, elevating a Texas staple into the global spotlight of competitive eating.
“Today, Geoff Esper rewrote the laws of human possibility by downing 51 tacos in 8 minutes,” said Major League Eating Chair George Shea. “At the same time, San Antonio witnessed an unparalleled demonstration of exceptionalism as James Webb and Miki Sudo, locked in unison, devoured nine tacos in a single minute to set a Guinness World Record.”
